DURKHEIM MODEL • SOCIETIES ARE HELD TOGETHER BY TWO QUALITIES: • MECHANICAL SOLIDARITY—Consists of shared beliefs, values and common ideas amongst the people serves to bind them together • ORGANIC SOLIDARITY__ Refers to the cohesiveness resulting from interdependence of people on one another. Example: students depend on teachers, who depend on administrators , who depend on politicians. It is this functional interdependence we have on one another which holds society together.
