  4. The First Coaching Session Your first SBL coaching session MUST be completed prior to the new member’s first TAB board meeting.

  5. Your First Coaching Session • Explain confidentiality • Assure the member that your discussion is between you and the member only. • Confidentiality is an essential element in trust. • Your ability to coach the member is lost forever if you betray a confidence. • Have the new member sign a confidentiality form at the first TAB board meeting if it is a new board.

  6. Your First Coaching Session Go through the New Member Kit. Briefly cover the other members in his/her board. If this is a new member for an existing board, go over the other members in detail.

  7. Your First Coaching Session Prepare the member to discuss the history of his/her personal life and company, current situation of the business and company & personal goals as listed in the Mew Member Kit. Advise the new member to prepare 12 handouts about their business for their first TAB meeting.      

  8. Your First Coaching Session • You may want to complete the member bio at the first coaching session. Write it as a marketing piece for future member prospects. • Discuss how to complete TAB Business Vantage if not completed prior to the meeting: • Logging on • Prioritizing categories • Answering questions

  9. Your First Coaching Session • If Vantage has been completed: • Review the bar chart, priorities vs. actual • Review the responses to the four questions • Review the functional responsibilities • Turn to the planning section and go over the 13 questions one by one, this will segue you into SBL

  10. Your First Coaching Session Review SBL and leave the member to respond to the questions on Personal Vision if not completed as yet. Using the members first challenge/opportunity as the CSF, create a goal, strategies and action plans for the first strategy.

  11. Your First Coaching Session Remind the member to bring his/her TAB New Member Kit to the meeting. Discuss what their first challenge/ opportunity, CSF will be. Mark his/her calendar for the date and time of the first TAB meeting.

  13. SBL coaching sessions provide an opportunity for the TAB-Certified SBL coach and TAB member to accomplish 5 mainobjectives. Coaching Sessions: 5 Main Objectives

  14. Review suggested solutions and strategies presented during previous TAB board meetings, or help deal with a new and more pressing problem that has occurred. SBL Coaching Sessions: Objective 1

  15. Coaching Sessions: Objective 2 • Use the SBL process to set the agenda for each coaching session. • Any personal or company material changes. • New challenges should be incorporated into the SBL process if possible. • Stick to your agenda unless there is urgency. In that case…

  16. Coaching Sessions: Objective 2 • Apply the Strategic Business Leadership process to “fires.” • Develop a goal. • Develop strategies. • Develop and help implement action plans in a timely fashion to address the “fire.”

  17. Coaching Sessions: Objective 3 • Prepare a new issue to be brought before the TAB board at the next meeting. • Visions, SWOTs, Plans • It may involve any business or personal issue the member wants to discuss.

Coaching Sessions: Objective 4 • Connect the coaching sessions to the board meeting. • Always have the board critique an individual member’s SBL plans. • Have a prepared topic for the board, proper handling of this step greatly affects the member’s presentation. • Have the board hold the member’sfeet to the fire.

  19. Coaching Sessions: Objective 5 The SBL coaching session helps to generate consulting assignments with the member through the introduction of Strategic Business Leadership and/or your expertise.

  21. Scheduling Coaching Sessions Coaching sessions can be held over breakfast, lunch or dinner. They can be held in your office or another mutually arranged place. Do not be late!

Meeting Environment • Choose a meeting environment that will not distract! • Have an understanding with the member that no interruptions will occur if the meeting is at the office of the member. • If you think you might be interrupted by an emergency, let the member know about that possibility and apologize in advance. • Are there other reasons to try to meet outside the member’s office?

  23. Tips for TAB Coaching Plan to call members on a “planned impromptu basis.” Your first SBL Coaching session should be up to two hours. Stay a few minutes longer than the hour if you can.
