  1. THE SCARLET LETTER BY NATHANIEL HAWTHORNE

  2. WHY I CHOSE THIS BOOK • I chose this book because I thought it would be an interesting read. It was set in Salem Massachusetts. In this book there is a lot of deception, lies and hardly any trust. I had watched a couple of movies based on this book but really I had no idea what the book was about. In my honest opinion I did not like this book it was very hard to read and tough to understand. It definitely wasn’t what I thought this book would be like. This book was good in some parts though don’t get me wrong it wasn’t horrible but I would only give it a 3 on a scale from 1-10.

  3. What the book is about • There are many wrongs in this book from the olden times. Promiscuity was frowned upon big time back then which is a valid point but the way they deal with it is definitely unjust. You were thought as dirty or worthless if you committed adultery. The put you up on a steak in front of the whole town so everyone could see you if you had committed this sin. Women were not allowed to live alone by law this was definitely frowned upon also. You could call this book a classic romantic novel it has a lot of passion in it also.

  4. Some good stuff about the book • Hester walked across the room. She stepped upon her left foot, her right foot, and then her left foot again. One wonders, why doth she, in this instance of walking across the room, begin her journey upon the left foot and not the right? Could it be her terrible sin, that the devil informeth the left foot just as he informeth the left hand and those bewitched, left-handed persons amongst us? Why, forsooth, doth the left foot of sin draggeth the innocent right foot along its wretched journey from one side of the room to the other? She walked across the room, I tell you! Guilty feet hath got no rhythm...

  5. Hester Prynne • Hester Prynne is the convicted adulterer in the story she is also the main character of the book. She was a beautiful and young women who has newly moved to Salem and had committed a sin and cheated on her husband. She was thought of as a dirty woman and was not looked at the same in the eyes of the towns people. She gave birth to a beautiful baby girl and named her pearl. I think Hester Prynne was a misunderstood woman with a kind heart who made a mistake that could not be forgiven.
