2. National Alliance on Mental Illness NAMI, The National Alliance On Mental Illness, was founded by 4 families in 1979. It is largest grassroots mental health organization dedicated to building better lives for the millions of Americans affected by mental illness. NAMI advocates for access to services, treatment, support and research and is steadfast in its commitment to raising awareness and building a community of hope for all those in need. October, 2013

11. Basics • For parents and other caregivers of children and adolescents living with mental illnesses • Meets once a week for 6 weeks • "This is the best program for families with children. It answers so many questions for parents. It can change and improve so many lives." October, 2013

In Our Own Voice • For the general public upon request: churches, colleges, universities, etc. • Recurring one time presentations • "The reason why this program is such a valuable resource for us is that it puts a human face on people who are living successfully with a mental illness." HEARTS AND MINDS • For Individuals with a mental illness diagnosis, taught by peers • Fun, practical 6 week course on nutrition, exercise, meal planning and personal awareness • "This course has literally been a life saver. It has opened my eyes to better understanding my illness and methods of recovery I did not know about before taking the course." October, 2013

Parents and Teachers as Allies • For any school professional • Presented as a two hour in-service program • Panel of presenters consists of a parent, an educator, a young adult and a health care professional • "This program gave me a new understanding of the importance of my role in early recognition of kids with symptoms of mental illness and the urgency of early intervention on their behalf." Examples of Additional Community Outreach • Educational Community Presentations by NAMI Rochester Staff and Volunteers to any group such as Strong Psychiatric Nursing Department Staff members; Churches, Kiwanis Club, Civic groups and others • Ongoing Individual Telephone and In-Office Family support services and referral services during regular business hours (9am-4pm Monday through Friday). • We are a referral Service to other agencies appropriate for the inquiries we that receive • Monroe County Mental Health Court Representation each Thursday afternoon to assist the needs of individuals and family members within the Criminal Justice system • Representation on the Monroe County Office of Mental Health Criminal Justice Sub Committee Monroe • Representation on the Monroe County Office of Mental Health Community Services Board • Partners with the EDPRT and Criminal Justice Veterans Outreach Program October, 2013
