  2. Where is Göteborg within Sweden? • Sometimes spelt as “Gothenburg,” this funny-sounding city is located near Sweden’s western coast. Location!

  3. Where is it within Europe? • Located approximately halfway between the capitals of Denmark and Norway, toward the north-central area of the continent of Europe.

  4. Waterways • GötaÄlv: drains Lake Vänern into the Kattegat; 93 km • GötaCanal: Swedish canal constructed in the early 19th century; 190 km, stretches from Gothenburg to the Baltic Sea PLACE

admission: free • 83 m tall • 23 floors • “Post-modern” skyscraper • Office • Nicknamed Läppstiftet, which translates to “Lipstick”


  17. GamlaÄlvsborgsSlottsruin(Elfsborg Fortress) • Open daily • Admission: free • Old fortress built in 14 century • New fortress built in 17th century

  18. Central Train Station • Open daily • Admission: free • The biggest of all Sweden's railway stations • also Sweden's oldest station, built in 1880s

  19. U of G • Open daily • Free Admission • University of Gothenburg (GöteborgsUniversitetsaula) • Founded 1891 • Eight faculties: arts, economics and law, education, fine arts, information technology, medicine, science and social sciences

Feskekörka (Fish Church) • Free Admission • Times: Tuesday to Thursday - 09:00 to 17:00, Friday - 09:00 to 18:00, Saturday - 09:00 to 13:30 • used as a market hall by fishmongers for over 130 years. • The building looks like a church, thus giving it its name • Specializes in seafood (of course)

  21. KronhusetochKronhusbodarna • Open daily • Admission is free • Built mid-17th century • Used by monarchy for storage purposes, as well as parliament meetings • Now houses a popular store and neighboring coffee shop

  22. ObservatorietiSlottsskogen (Observatory) • Open daily w/seasonal variations • Admission: charge, children are discounted, 5 and under are free • Built in 1930s • Displays sky shows of the planets and stars • Reachable by tram
