Functional model (1) • a co-operational model for three universities in Vaasa, Finland: University of Vaasa, Åbo Akademi Vasa, Swedish School of the Economics and Business Administration • a part of Finnish Virtual University, regional project • co-operation project UniNet with two universities in Umeå, Sweden • physical facilities in Tritonia, with academic library • to develop teaching and studying in collaboration with university faculties and departments Learning Centre 2003

Field of Operations • pedagogical and technology training, consultancy and support for university teachers • learning support for university students • support of other educational organizations in the region • development projects in the field of e-learning (portal technology, mobile technology, virtual environments etc.) Learning Centre 2003

Learning Centre ope.fi training - background • The knowledge strategy for education and research 2000-2004 • Education program of 15 study weeks in 3-levels: • ope.fi I – basic skills of using ICT • ope.fi II – skills of using ICT in teaching • ope.fi III – deepening skills in ICT Learning Centre 2003

  6. Learning Centre ope.fi - training • In cooperation with the UniNet-project • 15 study weeks program: • LINI: Basics of web-based teaching 5 sw • Aim is to give basic knowledge of the possibilities of using ICT in teaching • LINII: Basic use of ICT in teaching 5 sw • Aim is to give basic technical skills (PowerPoint, image processing, homepages, video etc.) • LINIII: The process of planning web-based teaching 5 sw • Aim is to create a web-based course or produce other media for teaching Learning Centre 2003

  7. Infolit – Information literacy for students • Aim: to give basic information literacy for all new students • Studies will be included in degree requirements • Project started in the beginning of 2003 Learning Centre 2003

  8. Infolit-program 5 study weeks • Five main subjects: • Information retrieval • Learning (web-based and face-to-face learning, strategies and practises) • Information and communication technology • Ethical use of information • Planning of studies Learning Centre 2003
