  2. History • Drug Testing began in the late 1980’s • Many companies began to drug test. • In 2002, the supreme court allowed the use of random tests • Schools think drug testing will ______ ______ _______ _______ ______ • What do you think is the most common way of testing for drugs?

  3. Legal and Constitutional significance • ∙Many people argue that drug testing implicates the 5th amendment privilege against self-incrimination, and the right to do process • ∙Many people also believe it violates the 4th amendment of unreasonable search and seizure

  4. People who support and oppose the issue • Support • The NCAA: • “Approximately $4.5 million is invested each year to collect and analyze approximately 13,500 samples through the NCAA’s national drug-testing program, and more than $1.5 million is provided each year to assist drug-education programs at its member colleges and universities.” • Oppose: • Students • "It was because I don't do drugs at all," the 2009 Penn Manor graduate said forcefully.
