  2. What is Sars? A violently infectious disease originating in China in 2002, caused by a coronavirus. The medical name is Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome, common name is Sars or coronavirus. Can spread by close contact. Can be spread either through the air or by touching a contaminated surface.

  3. Description Sars is an infectious disease that attacks the respiratory system and can cause a deadly kind of pneumonia. Sars is believed to be caused by a coronavirus.

  4. History of Sars Believed that the disease was initially transferred to humans through civets, a mammal with a cat like appearance. Sars was a deadly disease that originally came from china near Hong Kong.

  5. Symptoms of Sars Sars typically begins like the flu, fevers, chills, muscle aches, and occasionally diarrhea. Fever of 100.4F (38 C) or higher, dry cough, shortness of breath.

  6. Transmission of Sars Sars can be spread fairly easy. By touching an area that someone who has the disease, breathing in infected air, or by simply walking past the person. Just being near someone with Sars is a high risk that you could get Sars.

  7. Treatments and Cures About 2 to 10 days after being infected with the Sars virus, the person will begin to have Sars symptoms. There is currently no treatment that can kill the Sars virus. Therefore, treatment for Sars is focused on providing relief of symptoms and complications as the body fights the Sars virus.

  8. Originated Sars actually began in november of 2002 in the Guangdong province of mainland China.
