  5. Prophet Sulayman’s Thankfulness • And indeed, We gave knowledge to Dawood and to Sulayman; and they both said: “All the praises (and thanks) be to Allah, Who has chosen us above many of His faithful servants.” [27:15] • In spite of his great kingdom, Prophet Sulayman was not arrogant like many other kings and emperors. • At length, when They came to a (lowly) valley of ants, one of the ants said: "O you ants, get into your habitations, Lest Solomon and His hosts crush you (under foot) without knowing it." [27:18]

  6. Prophet Sulayman’s Thankfulness • So He smiled, amused at Her speech; and He said: "O My Lord! so order me that I may be grateful for Your favours, which You hast bestowed on me and on My parents, and that I may work the righteousness that will please You: and admit me, by Your Grace, to the ranks of Your righteous Servants.” [27:19] • He cared about all creatures in his kingdom, including the tiny ants. • As he prayed that his power may only be used for good causes and the benefit of the world.

  7. Great Things Can be Achieved by Humble Beings • As humble and tiny a creature as an ant saved the entire colony of ants from Sulayman’s army. • Likewise, there is room for the humblest people to achieve great things in this world.

  8. Questions • Why did Sulayman express his thanks and how? Quote his du’a mentioned in the Qur’an. • Describe the most fascinating story of Prophet Sulayman. • What characteristic of Prophet Sulayman is proved through this incident? • How did he glorify Allah on this occasion? Quote the (Qur’anic) du’a. • What moral lesson do you learn from the queen ant? • What three points do you get from the ant’s speech?

  9. Sulayman’s Consciousness of Allah • 30. To David we gave Solomon (for a son),- How excellent In Our service! ever did He turn (to Us)! • 31. Behold, there were brought before him, at eventide coursers of the highest breeding, and swift of foot(horses); • 32.And He said, "Truly do I love the love of good, with a view to the glory of My Lord,"- until (the sun) was hidden In the veil (of night) • 33. “Bring them back to me." then began He to pass His hand over (their) legs and their necks.

  10. Sulayman’s Consciousness of Allah • One day, Prophet Sulayman was inspecting the horses which were prepared for Jihad. • Being greatly engrossed in it, He completely forgot to offer the ‘Asr prayer before sunset. • Although his inspection was for the cause of Allah, but he blamed himself for missing the Salah due to it. • He repented and offered an expiation by slaughtering the horses.

  11. Questions • Is it permissible to ignore Salah for a righteous deed? • How did Sulaymanعليه السلام miss the Salah and what was its impact on him? • What did he do for its expiation? • What do you learn from this incident? • Which prayer did Sulaymanعليه السلام miss? • What is the significance of the ‘Asr prayer?

  12. Faith in Action • Always put Allah’s worship and other good deeds first. Do not delay prayer and good deeds until after a game, a TV show or anything else. • Do your spiritual duties first and then attend to other daily and worldly business.

  13. Sulayman builds Masjid-ul-Aqsa • Prophet Sulaymanعليه السلام built Masjid-ul-Aqsa in Quds (Jerusalem) for the worship of Allah. • Prophet Muhammad (SAW) said: “When Sulaymanعليه السلام built Bayt al-Maqdis he asked Allah to grant him three things. Allah gave him two and we hope that the third one would be ours. • He asked him for a kingdom that does not belong to any other after him. Allah gave it to him. • The second was to grant him a judgement close to that of Allah and He gave it to him.

  14. Sulayman builds Masjid-ul-Aqsa • The third thing he asked Allah that any man leaving his house wanting nothing but to pray in this House (Aqsa Mosque) be forgiven of all his sins as the day he was born.” • The third point of the Dua was not granted to him because it is only meant for the Mosque in Makkah. • All the traces of Masjid-ul-Aqsa built by Sulayman have disappered.

  15. Questions • Who built the Aqsa Mosque and where? • Mention the wishes of Prophet Sulaymanعليه السلام. How many of them were granted? What were they? • Why was the last wish not granted? • Is the building of Masjid-ul-Aqsa that stands today the same one which was built by Sulaymanعليه السلام?
