  1. Linked Data Ryan McAlister

  2. What is Linked Data A method of publishing structured data so that it can be interlinked and become more useful. Extends HTTP, RDF, AND URIs to share information in a way that can be read automatically by computers Enables data from different sources to be connected and queried.

  3. Four Principles of Linked Data Use URIs to name things Use HTTP URIs so that people can look up those names When someone looks up a URI, provide useful information, using the standards (RDF, SPARQL) Include links to other URIs, so that they can discover more things.

  4. Datasets CKAN – registry of open data and content packages by the Open Knowledge Foundation DBpedia – dataset containing extracted data from Wikipedia GeoNames – provides RDF descriptions of more than 7,500,00 geographical features. FOAF – a dataset describing persons, their properties and relationships

  5. Example

  6. 5 Star Linked Data

  7. Data is accessible on the web You can look, print, and share it

  8. Everything that 1 star data can do Able to process it with proprietary software Export into another format

  9. Same as 2 Now we can manipulate the data without being confined to any particular software

  10. Same as 3 It’s now in the web. All data items have a URI You can link it from any other place.

  11. Same as 4. Data is now discoverable Discover more related data Increase the value of the data

  12. In Conclusion Linked Data is a method of linking data on the web to make it more accessible for everyone, and to make discovering new things easier.
