  3. Why We Need New Classroom Models • (picture of bored kids) • Kids are still bored. • Kids are still passive. • Kids are not using their full learning capacity.

  4. Technology to the Rescue…or Not • (Picture of robot cowboy on horse?) • Offers possibilities for… • project-based learning, • access to knowledge, • individualization, and • immediate feedback. • But the integration of technology with teaching has been lacking.

  5. Why has computer-assisted instruction (CAI) had a limited impact on learning? • (Picture of robot on surfboard-wipeout?) • CAI has been down the hall or at the back of the class. • CAI has rarely been central to teaching.

  6. Welcoming Technology to Class • Interactive whiteboards • Computers with projectors • Electronic response devices • Tablets, iPads • Universal access to laptops (Picture of teacher with whiteboard)

Classroom-Embedded Technology— • assists teachers (rather than replacing them), • uses prepared flipcharts with embedded instructional tools, • creates dynamite presentations, • links to information anywhere, • provides assessment, and • offers immediate feedback.
