Sarah Delicate • Prism-award winning coach, dynamic facilitator and trainer • Presently nominated for an Ontario Government Amethyst award for work in Performance Measurement • Role today is to make the space for: • critical thinking, • creative dialogue, and • ideas for action 2

  3. Why are we doing this? • To increase our awareness of each other’s work, our challenges and what we need from each other • Looking for feedback on your ‘improvement priorities’ • Challenges we can use to guide our thinking and the strategic future direction for S&T

  4. Our invitation: To identify and explore the current challenges and issues affecting emergency responders

  5. Before we begin... • Use your flip charts to capture your thoughts, but be sure to document your finished work in the worksheets • All working materials will be collected for compilation – please write as legibly as possible!! • Please identify a recorder and a time ‘reminder’ at your table This experience belongs to you. Bring to it what you need, take from it what you need • Four standard principles in facilitation: 1. Whoever comes are the right people 2. Whatever happens is the only thing that could have happened. 3. When it starts is the right time 4. When it's over, it's over!

  6. Challenge: Manage your time! You have roughly 50 minutes to complete your whole challenge! • INDIVIDUALLY: • Using the post it notes at your table, identify the top 5 issues or challenges*** that affect you as an emergency responder. One issue per post-it note • Please identify your role on each post it for collection purposes

  7. Challenge: Manage your time! You have roughly 50 minutes to complete your challenge! * and where it makes sense to do so... • IN YOUR TABLES, quickly review your challenges and theme into common categories, where applicable*. • Identify the critical few pressing challenges to ‘flesh out’, as a table or in smaller groups at your table (go where your interests is...). On your worksheets (use as many as you require).... • Clearly identify the challenge/issue in ONE easy to understand paragraph • Why is this a problem? • What degree of control do we have over this challenge/issue? • What degree of risk does this present (1 low – 10 high)? Outline the RISKS that this challenge presents, and identify the likelihood of this risk (1 low – 10 high) • Who needs to be aware of this challenge? • What immediate solutions do you propose?

  8. ***Issues/Challenges that might not come to mind immediately, but might be worthy of consideration....
