  2. Lightning • Lightning is a form of static electricity • Lightning can be as hot as 30,000° C • A path from the cloud is made by electrons and a path is made from the ground by protons. When they meet ZAP!!!

  3. STATIC ELECTRICITY • There are electrons (negatively charged particles) and protons (positively charged particles). • When an object rubs against another object the electrons move between them. • Electrons move from negatively charged objects to positively charged ones.

The Relation Between Lightning and Static Electricity • Lightning is just a bigger form of static electricity. • Particles in the cloud rub together to produce static electricity. • Lightning occurs when electrons are attracted to protons on the ground or in other clouds.
