  2. The Signing of the Treaty of Versailles June 28, 1919. The treaty of Versailles ended World War I. However it is perhaps the greatest cause of World War II.

  4. Reasons for punishing Germany. • Germany started the War. • Money that had been spent by each country to fund the war. • The number of deaths caused by the war • About 9 million deaths. • About 27 million wounded or disabled.

  5. Treaty of Versailles requirements of Germany • Germany was required to pay reparations. . $33 Billion • Forced to accept War Guilt Clause. • Germany was made to reduce their army . . Only allowed 100,000 men in army. . No conscription. ( Military Draft) . Reduce Navy to 15,000 men. . Armed airplanes and tanks prohibited. . No Submarines. . No blockades of others ships.

  6. Germany’s Reaction to the Treaty of Versailles • The Germans were angry most of all about the War Guilt Clause.

Reactions of Other Countries • United States- did not agree with the treaty and therefore did not except it. • Italy- did not get control of the places they had wanted. • Britain- did not stick to the treaty, but weakened their stance. • France- got upset at the US and Britain for not standing strong against Germany.

Reactions of Hitler • Hitler was angry at Germans for signing the treaty. • He began to break the treaty in many ways. • Hitler began to build Germany’s military back up beyond the limits established by the Treaty of Versailles. • He began placing military personnel in places such as the Rhineland which was established a demilitarized area by the treaty.
