  3. Steps taken • Zones and commodities selected • Baseline data collected • Rapid diagnostic study conducted • Commodity vision and potential interventions identified during zonal stakeholder meetings

Implementation process - planning • In each Zone - organize meeting with key Zonal and District officials to: • Present development intervention plan (including km and capacity development) • Identify Pilot sites to initiate production activities (PA, rural/urban, watershed, irrigation scheme, grazing area) • Identify key value chain actors for each commodity to be linked to the production sites • Introduce commodity platform concept (USE SHOULD BE MADE OF THE INFORMATION DOCUMENTED IN THE ZONAL REPORTS)

Implementation process - planning • For each of the selected commodities create a platform and organize a meeting to • Review market potential/channels for the different products in a commodity • Review/agree on value chain development production sites for year1 • Review/agree PA, District, Zonal agribusinesses, input producers, community service schemes to be linked to the production intervention areas • Review /agree proposed interventions year 1

Implementation process – production interventions • Coach/mentor extension staff to introduce key production interventions during the year • Identify/provide demonstration materials for production interventions and/or prepare credit proposals as required • Identify key topics for capacity development and organize resource persons for training as required.

Implementation process – input/service supply interventions • Coach/mentor extension staff and agri -businesses to introduce input/service supply interventions • Conduct rapid assessment/action planning for community based target input/services beneficiaries as required • Identify/provide demonstration supplies, equipment and or prepare credit proposals to introduce input/service supply interventions • Conduct capacity developments for selected input/services beneficiaries (national/regional) • Create linkages between agri-businesses at District, zonal, regional and federal level

Implementation process – processing and marketing • Coach/mentor extension staff and agribusinesses to introduce marketing and processing interventions • Conduct rapid market assessment for selected products as required • Identify/provide demonstration supplies, equipment and or prepare credit proposals to introduce marketing processing interventions • Create linkages with processing and marketing businesses at regional/federal level

Implementation process monitoring and learning • For selected platform members organize field visits/study tours to advanced/critical value chain nodes in and outside the Zone. • Organize platform meeting/field day to review progress and learn after six month. • Organize seminars to present and discuss lesson learned. • Feed market oriented knowledge skills to service providers and vc actors

Poultry • Two systems • Peri-urban – exotic (integrate with dairy/fattening) • Rural – local breeds (selected) • Production • Use of better performing breeds (egg or broiler) • Improved management (housing, feeding, health, scale, records) • Input/service supply • Hatchery, pullet production • CAHW/vaccinators • Linkages with suppliers/services, including credit institutions • Processing marketing • Marketing groups • Linkages with institutional buyers

Small ruminants • Production • Use of better performing animal/breeds (exotic, local) • Improved fattening practices (feeding, housing, health, scale, cluster, records) • On farm fodder production, treatment/conservation • Input/service supply • Community breeding system • Breeder groups • CAHW/vaccinators • Communal grazing area management • Forage seed multiplication systems (FTCs, Private farms) • Fodder conservation/treatment services • Linkages with suppliers/service including credit institutions • Processing/marketing • Marketing groups • Linkages with institutional buyers (contracts, weight)

Large ruminants • Production • Use of better performing animal/breeds (exotic, local) • Improved fattening practices (feeding, housing, health, scale, cluster, records) • On farm fodder production, treatment/conservation • Input/service supply • CAHW • Communal grazing area management • Forage seed multiplication systems (FTCs, Private farms) • Fodder conservation/treatment services • Linkages with suppliers/service including credit institutions • Marketing processing • Marketing groups • Linkages with institutional buyers (contracts, weight) • Food safety butcheries

Dairy • Two systems • Urban/peri urban fluid milk by specialized and mixed farms • Rural local butter production/sale by mixed farms • Production • Use of improved breeds • Improved animal management (housing, feeding, health, fertility mngt) • On farm fodder production, treatment, conservation • Input/service supply • Mass insemination system • Calf/Heifer breeders • CAHW/vaccinators • Communal grazing area management • Forage seed multiplication systems (FTCs, Private farms) • Fodder conservation/treatment services • Linkages with suppliers/service including credit institutions • Marketing/processing • Processing fluid milk – cooperatives, private • Processing of butter – women groups • Collection points in peri urban areas • Quality control
