  2. Understand how texts are made cohesive through resources e.g. synonyms, and antonyms • Understand that words which sound the same may have different spellings and meanings which determine their usage. Building information through connecting similar and contrasting dissimilar things.

  3. Synonyms – words that are the same or nearly the same as another word (SYN means the SAME) Antonyms – words that are opposite to another word(ANTI means AGAINST) Homonyms – words that sound the same but have different meanings (HOMO means SAME)

  4. Words (or phrases) which have the same or similar meaning to another word. Synonyms Babies Synonyms can help us to understand what the text is about. Synonyms are useful when we are summarising text. S for synonymmakes it easy to remember…. S for Same!

  5. Examples of how Synonyms and Antonyms can improve our writing. Elephants are bigger than mice! Elephants are larger than mice! Mice are smaller than elephants! Can you think of any other variations of the first sentence?

  6. Words (or phrases) which have the same or similar meaning to another word. Synonyms Let’s suggest some synonyms here … Big - Fast - S for synonymmakes it easy to remember…. S for Same! Angry - Said -

Do you have some strategies to help you remember which word to use for each situation?

  12. They’re, there (and their) – visual reminders They’re: This is a contraction of two words – they + are…Could you use ‘they are’ in your sentence? Yes! Then use this one! There: This relates to a place…Where? Not here! Over there!Can you see that they all have “here”? “Their” is a possessive. It means that something belongs to someone. Could you use ‘our’ in your sentence? Yes! Then use this one!
