  2. ATOMS? • ATOMS: • The basic building blocks of all things. They are found in all things. • They are made of small particles: • Electrons (-), Neutrons (O) & Protons (+)

  4. ATOMS? • There are 92 kinds of natural atoms • Natural atoms examples: oxygen, hydrogen, carbon, nitrogen, gold, silver, sulfur, helium, aluminum etc..

  5. ATOMS? • So...Aluminum foil is made of aluminum atoms. • A diamond consists of carbon atoms. • Sand is made of silicon and oxygen atoms. • The sugar in my tea...carbon, hydrogen & oxygen atoms

  6. MOLECULES?

  7. MOLECULES ??? • Molecules: • They are combinations of tightly bound atoms. • The atoms in molecules are held together by sharing electrons • Ex: Water is a combo of 2 hydrogen and 1 oxygen. Hence....H2O! • Molecules are extremely small and you need special labs to see them. Imaging them is even harder!
