  2. Introduction • The Circulatory System is responsible for transporting materials throughout the system. Also, it’s a system of vessels that pass through your entire body.

  3. Organs • Heart • Vessels • Arteries • Arterioles • Capillaries • Venules • Veins

  4. How the system works • The blood starts to circulate, it leaves the heart from the left ventricle and goes into the aorta. It leaves the aorta, it’s full of oxygen. On the way back, it travels through the system of veins. As it reaches the lungs, the carbon dioxide is removed from the blood and is replaced with fresh oxygen.

  5. How the system works • The blood carries oxygen and nutrients to every cell of the body, carries away waste products, and plays a central role in the body’s defense against intruders.

  6. How the system works • The Pulmonary Circulation carries the blood to and from the lungs. In the heart, the blood flows from the right atrium into the right ventricle. It moves the blood between the heart and the lungs.

  7. How the system works • The Systemic Circulation serves the body except for the lungs oxygenated blood from the lungs. It returns to the heart from two pairs of pulmonary veins a pair from each lung. It enters the left atrium, which contracts when filled, sending blood into the left ventricle. The bicuspid, or mitral valve controls the blood flow into the ventricle. Contraction of the powerful ventricle forces the blood under great pressure into the aortic arch and on into the aorta.

  8. Interactions with other systems • It works with the respitory system to complete respiration.
