Inhalants 3 types • Chemical solvents • Glue, gasoline, paints, paint thinner typewriter correction fluid, lighter fluid, shoe polish, & liquid wax • Aerosols • Hair spray, air fresheners, insect spray, & spray paint • Nitrites • Amyl nitrite, nitrous oxide (laughing gas), & butyl nitrite (a room odorizer or liquid incense) Concepts of Fitness and Wellness 7e

Examples of Serious Health Effects from Drug Use • Brain damage: ice, heroin, PCP, inhalants, MDMA • Convulsions/strokes: ice, cocaine, uppers • Paranoia, psychosis: designer drugs, hallucinogens • Heart and/or lung damage: PCP, marijuana • Memory impairment: marijuana • Liver and/or kidney damage:inhalants, alcohol • Miscarriage, birth defects: cocaine, heroin, LSD • Impaired immune system: narcotics, PCP Concepts of Fitness and Wellness 7e
