  1. While I’m away…

  2. I hope not this…

  3. And not too much of this…

  4. WP4 Projects which need to be continued • New CF stave production jig • Peter has started to work on this, with input from Oxford • Plan is to make at least two jigs (one in Liverpool, one in Oxford) in the autumn • These are then used to make more planks • See whether we can improve flatness • One of these planks could be thermo-mechanical prototype #2 • One aspect of these planks would be to continue the development of alternative cores (corrugated core) • Insertion & locking mechanics prototype • Co-curing • Need to firm up manufacturing process (press or autoclave, jigs) • Understand tape expansion • Verify tape performance • Possibly develop alternative skin lay-ups • Full structure FEA • Needed to optimize stave stiffness, locking mechanics properties and global support design

  5. Organization • For each of this task I will have a local (Oxford) contact • Furthermore for each of these tasks I have tried to find a UK contact as well who should work with the local person in keeping things moving • Finally, I do hope to stay in touch regularly with Oxford, and possibly with the rest of the UK • The regular WP4 phone meeting will not be practical, • I plan to set up a weekly skype meeting with Stephanie and Paul at Oxford. • Others could join this or we have a dedicated bi-weekly evo or skype meeting for the bigger questions?…

  7. What I want to do at Berkeley • Primary motivation was to work with Eric and Gil and learn about CF manufacture and material management and other fancy carbon stuff • Also see what they are doing in terms of co-curing and see what we could do together • And then: Work with Maurice and Gil on pixel system aspects (layout, services, integration) • One of the first things here will be the discussion of the 2018 pixel system. • But: Nothing is fixed, I’m happy to see things develop…

  8. Finally… • My stay should be useful for the UK effort, so please contact me with anything you like to get discussed (politely) with the Berkeley people (and SLAC is not far either…)
