  1. Troubleshooting

  2. Troubleshooting Aids

  3. You must know where to find information about equipment. (i.e., blueprints, sketches, manuals, work logs, schematics)

  4. The machine history can become important info. It can actually become a more useful source than manuals if records have been kept correctly.

  5. Blueprints of plants or areas can provide info to you that is otherwise hidden to viewing.

  6. Blueprints can be important when dealing with additions to plants, as well as installing new equipment.

  7. Sketches will be drawings made by previous mechanics, etc. or hand diagrams that are included in the machine history log.

  8. Manuals and manufacturers’ literature can include much information. Installation, service, and maintenance manuals are the best source.

  9. Manuals will have maintenance and adjustment sections. This will give you planned steps for their suggested maintenance schedule.

  10. Illustrations in manuals typically include various views of parts and cutaways which helps in determining problems.

  11. Make sure when taking apart equipment that you keep a proper inventory of where the various pieces go so that it can be put back together.

  12. Your manuals will also include full parts lists so that order numbers can be sent to the manufacturer for replacement.
