Global Mission and Values • Mission: • Advance and support women working in microfinance and microenterprise development through education and training, by promoting leadership opportunities, and by increasing visibility of women's participation and talent while maintaining a work/life balance

Global Mission and Values • Vision: • WAM International will become recognized worldwide as a leading organization that has great impact and offers needed leadership-building and professional development services (networking, education, and training) to women in the microfinance and microenterprise industries.

Global Mission and Values • Four Core Values: • To advance the provision of financial services to the poor • To advance and support women’s leadership in the microfinance and microenterprise development industries through education and training, by promoting leadership opportunities, and by increasing visibility of their participation and talent while maintaining a work/life balance • To extend economic opportunities to women globally • To continue to raise gender issues with a collective voice

Our History • Launched in 2003 • Formed for women professionals by women professionals • Filled the need for an active forum of professionals to exchange ideas and experiences • Volunteer versus donor led launch • WAM International = umbrella organization (infrastructure, connectivity, global vision) • WAM Chapters = culturally appropriate and locally relevant programming

Our History • We have a history of organic growth through grass-roots chapter formation • Word of mouth expansion • 4 chapters in first two years (DC, NY, Uganda, CEE) • 13 chapters today (CEE, NL, UK, MidEast, Ecuador, Canada, Chicago, NoCal, DC, NY, Kenya, Uganda, India) • Ongoing new chapter inquiries (Togo, Denver, Texas) Over 400 Members Around the World • CANADA • NL • UK • CEE • Washington,DC • Chicago • New York • North California • MidEast • INDIA • KENYA • UGANDA 13 Chapters • ECUADOR

  8. 2011 Key Accomplishments • WAM International continued to live the WAM values and mission in 2011 • WAM promoted women’s leadership and visibilityby sponsoring practitioners at recognized industry training and conference opportunities • Joint chapter fundraising and targeted WAM Intl appeals made it possible for 5 female microfinance practitioners attend 5 skills-based and networking conferences (WWB NY, SMDP Ghana, SMDP Togo, AMiDA in Indonesia, SEEP Washington DC) in 2011 • Relationship with a leading foundation made it possible for 1 female microfinance practitioner to attended the Boulder at Turin Microfinance training session

  9. 2011 Key Accomplishments • WAM demonstrated leadership on gender issues through the SEEP Gender Working Group, as well as grassroots chapter events • WAM improved connectivityby launching the chapter working group and refreshing website content weekly (regular chapter and WAM International updates) • WAM enhanced sustainabilitythrough a focus on enhanced institutional knowledge and expansion of the WAM International board membership.

  10. 2012 Key Goals • Formalize scholarship pilot program in the form of the global Scholarship Endowment • Increase number of chapters actively participating in Scholarship Endowment program with regard to: • fundraising events (jointly with WAM International) • Recommendation of scholarship recipient candidates • selection of scholarship winners • Further enhance connectivity among WAM International and chapters • Global WAM International calls • Chapter working group meetings • Provide connectivity tools (cross-marketing on WAM International website; access to webinar license) • Further enhance the WAM International website

  11. Chapter “Best Practices” • There are many examples of WAM Chapters who create relevant events for their membership.
