We are here as part of a formal alliance. We're putting aside distinctions and age old wars and saying that we are together” • Bill Shorten - A National Disability Insurance Scheme is part of the live public policy debate – but it is no done deal. • Your continued advocacy of the cause is critical.

  5. Senator Mitch Fifield – •  “I don’t baulk at the complexity or the challenge or the cost. This is needed, we need this, and I look forward to being part of delivering a better deal and making sure that people with a disability in Australia get the support they need and the opportunities they deserve.” • Patricia Scott Productivity Commissioner • I still find myself taken aback by the deficiencies in the current arrangement. I don't think I ever would have anticipated hearing what I have heard. In my naivety, I thought I should start by mapping the current system... After about two weeks I completely gave up because it was impossible to do!

  6. National Disability & Carers Congress Transcripts : Transcripts - http://www.nds.org.au/presentation/article/30 • Mary Wooldridge Victorian NDIS Taskforce • : to provide advice to the Victorian government to help the development and implementation of an NDIS, including our response to the final draft reports from the Productivity Commission. Importantly, asking how the state government is going to play a role in building a broad community consensus for the need and implementation of NDIS? We have established an NDIS secretariat located in the Premiers Department. • The real threat is that we allow the NDIS to become a political football in the great Australian sport of federal state buck passing.

  7. The Political Process - Key decision-making dates Productivity Commission hands over report to govt Govt has 25 sitting days to respond (deadline 25th Nov) State & Fed governments consider report at COAG (Dec or Feb?)

  8. Campaign From Here ….. Building a movement Unions/Community Groups/Clubs/ Public venues & visibility shopping Centres etc Morning Disibilitea MP Visiting –Toolkit Party Conferences Media Stories

  9. Final Words – Bruce Bonyhady “ Bill Shorten opened this conference by saying that the door is ajar. It is not open. We need to make sure that that door opens and as a result, our leaders introduce a scheme. Each of us need to go back to our states and talk to our local politicians to make sure that they too support an NDIS at the state level... not just in principle but in practice.”
