  3. Project Vision • E-Government is an important initiative of the Government as given in the IT Policy & Action Plan. This project will initiate a province wide connectivity linking provincial government with the districts and tehsils. • The first step would be to provide linkage at each EDO and TMO level and as the demand and work routine grows with the adoption of this mode, the facility will be expended gradually. • Intranet will provide a back bone for all the application software and databases and act as a vehicle for online communication that will help policy makers and implementers interact more meaningfully and productively.

Relationship of the project with the Objectives of the sector • All the projects of computerization ultimately depend upon the basic communication infrastructure, i.e., Networking, which is the highway for carrying data and sharing resources. • Unless this project is implemented, the software developed for other projects will not be useful in its functionality. • This project can be termed as a vehicle on which all others will ride. Hence this project is to be implemented urgently. Cont….

Cont…. • The success of the project like Land Revenue Records Computerization, Motor Transport Management Information Systems, Libraries online, Arms Licenses MIS, Registration Deeds, etc. that are already under implementation greatly depends on this infrastructure. • The communication between Field Offices, Districts, Tehsils and the citizens will be faster, reliable and more productive for the planners in particular.

  6. Economic Benefits • Stationery : Once u have the intranet facility, there will be a substantial decrease in the use of stationery. Soft Copies-----Replace------Hard Copies • Postage : Through intranet u don’t need to worry about on time and secure delivery of important documents. You can say bye bye to mail and courier services. FTP (file transfer)----Replaces----Mail/Couriers • Telephone : VOIP (Voice over Internet) allows u to communicate with others with quality and efficiency. Emails/Chat-------------Replaces----------Telephones There will be an estimated 10% savings (at least) in the Annual Expense.

  10. Location of the project • All Districts, Tehsils/Towns in Punjab • All the 34 Districts and 124 Tehsils/Towns will be served. • Initially 5 Govt. departments in each district will be served. • Finally entire Punjab Province will be served.

Existing Facilities • The Fiber Optic Network of S&GAD within Civil Secretariat, connecting over 20 offices across different blocks: • The Wireless Bridge Network of City District Lahore, linking 4 sites • LANs within departments, such as those in Finance, C&W, ITD, P&D Department • Local Area Networking at Sialkot City.
