  1. According to information from Colorado State University, wheat varieties resistant to Russian wheat aphid have been in Colorado for about 10 years, starting with Halt. Resistant versions of several popular wheats: Ankor(Akron) Prairie Red (TAM 107) Prowers 99 (Lamar) Yumar (Yuma) Stanton is from Kansas and has different source of resistance

  2. The resistance in the first five of these varieties is conferred by the gene Dn4 Russian wheat aphid resistant varieties accounted for roughly 25 percent of Colorado’s wheat acres in 2002 and 2003 crop years, with higher percentages in counties with more consistent infestations Source: Colorado State University

  3. A biotype survey revealed a new biotype. Original biotypes were classified as Biotype A. Biotype B was found in eastern Colorado and has expanded since first observed last spring. Varieties resistant to Biotype A are still an important Russian wheat aphid management tool

  4. A common question is how soon will varieties resistant to both Biotype A and the New biotypes be available? This will depend on where researchers can find new sources of resistance

  5. The development period will be short IF: Resistance is found in advanced breeding material with good quality and agronomic traits This is highly unlikely, so a more likely scenario will be resistance may be found

  6. Click here for online guides for growers choosing resistant varieties.
