Visits abroad • The following ran in 2002-03: • Spanish cultural stay in Barcelona (including language tuitions) – Activities week. • Middle school study trip in Lille – Lent Term. • German cultural stay – Activities week . • German exchange (Year 10 to 12) to Neuburg (Bavaria). • Year 7 & Year 8 Outdoor Pursuit trips to France (including a day of language work) – Summer Term. • A similar programme is envisaged for this year. Additionally, there will be a week intensive course in Montpellier for Years 11, 12 and 13 (Easter Holidays). • We have also recently set up an e-mail exchange for Year 11 French students with a Lycee in Rouen. • We are also investigating the possibility of a study visit to the Futuroscope for Years 9 and 10 French students.

  12. Overview of MFL provision • French is introduced for all pupils in Year 7. • In Years 8 & 9, all pupils study Spanish or German in addition to French. Each language gets an allocation of 3 periods a week. • In Years 10 & 11 all pupils continue with at least one of their foreign languages. • In Year 12, pupils may continue their foreign language(s) to AS level. They will study the language of their choice for 7 periods a week. An additional period a week is spent with the foreign language assistant. • In Year 13 this may be extended to A2 level. There are currently 8 lessons per week; an additional period a week with the foreign language assistant is also included.

  13. Modern Languages Society The Modern Languages Society provides a programme of talks and visits, mainly for Sixth Formers. Each year, a Sixth Former is elected as secretary. Lucia Scarantino is Chair Person of the Society. There is also an annual Society dinner, for Sixth Formers and former students as well as members of staff. Meetings can take various forms such as Visiting speakers, conferences, visits to language institutes, student presentations or even a video followed by a debate. The way of advertising the meetings is varied, such as, posters on relevant notice boards, teachers telling pupils in lessons, notes in registers as well as inclusion in the St Dunstan's Calendar.
