  5. Colony’s name: Delaware ( The First State ) Colony founder: Peter Minuit Peter Minuit ended up owning the land because he gave the people freedom, good farming land, and protection. Peter Minuit wanted to see the land to start as new colony, and the land was protected by wind and ocean waves , the land was also really good for farming. Delaware’s significance to early America was the usage of log cabins. These buildings were sturdy and rugged. They also is one of the most enduring symbols of our nations history.

  7. Delaware Delaware was the first of the original 13 colonies. Earth was great for farming. Log cabins were the first built in America. Agroup of Swedish settlers sailed here. Was captured by the English. A good harbor protected from wind and ocean waves. An artists representation of a log cabin from the colony. Refused to stop trading with the Indians. Eventually broke apart from PA.
