  2. 2012 Journey began WE FAILED!!! Funding received from an AHP Career Fellowship to gain SVQ accreditation for the supervision training SVQ route was too academically focused for our needs. Liaised with AHP career Fellowship to discuss the funding and the next steps Explore a more clinically focused method of endorsement Discussed with the NHS Fife Occupational Therapy Supervision Steering Group our options Explore COT endorsement.

  3. College Occupational Therapist Endorsement Wrote learning outcomes in line with the Scottish Qualifications Framework Consideration of how learning outcomes were going to be assessed Developed session plans Completion of COT endorsement paperwork Evaluation process of the endorsement

  4. Success at last!!! We completed the endorsement for Introduction to supervision and Supervisors training

Return of investment of the endorsement of training Since the evaluation the endorsement logo is on all training materials All staff view the endorsement as a status of quality for the training they attend . Supervision is viewed as an essential governance activity impacting positively on patient intervention. Is that true?

  6. Impact of supervision The table below shows the amount of time spent within supervision discussing clinical case load. • In some areas geographically and clinically, it was highlighted that limited time was spent discussing clinical caseload within formal supervision as this done constantly throughout the day with all staffing levels. Band 7s, within some areas also participated in group supervision which covered service improvement as well as clinical caseload.

  7. Impact of supervision • The table below depicts the impact supervision had on clinical caseload. The table shows that the time spent discussing clinical caseload within supervision impacted on both the patient journey and the supervisees’ knowledge and skills. The highest impact felt by the supervisees’ was that the discussion enabled better outcomes for patients.

  8. Sustainability of supervision The final component to sustain the quality and governance of our supervision infrastructure was to ensure that we had sufficient trainers to continue to roll out in-house training in a cost effective and sustainable manner.

  9. Future developments based on the impact evaluation Development of group supervision training to accommodate changing demands e.g. modality specific psychological therapies supervision On going development of training to include various communication and challenging tools when exploring complex topics within supervision.
