  4. Ad Hoc Network • Ad Hoc Network is a dynamically created network that doesn’t rely on any fixed infrastructure for its operation but works in a shared wireless media.

  19. Problems due to limited bandwidth • Limited bandwidth requires the signaling traffic to be minimized in an Ad Hoc network. • There is usually a trade off between the latency and the signaling traffic.

  20. Approaches to Routing in Ad Hoc Networks • Table driven routing protocols • Proactive in nature • Generate lot of signaling traffic • Less latency • On demand routing protocols • Reactive in nature • Generate less signaling traffic • More latency

  21. Position-aided Routing Protocols • Use the location information about the other nodes from some positioning system like Global Positioning System (GPS). • Results in reduction in signaling traffic. • Reduction in latency.
