Subtraction • Tosubtract means to take away from a group or a number of things. When we subtract, the number of things in the group reduce or become less. The minuend, subtrahend and difference are parts of a subtraction problem. Subtraction is taking one number away from another. • How do you subtract? • There is a method which is similar to the addition method in which you will subtract the ones from ones and tens from tens and hundreds from hundreds and so on… • What is the minuend? • The first number in a subtraction. The number from which another number (the Subtrahend) is to be subtracted.minuend − subtrahend = differenceExample: in 8 − 3 = 5, 8 is the minuend. • What is the subtrahend? • The number that is to be subtracted. The second number in a subtraction.minuend − subtrahend = differenceExample: in 8 − 3 = 5, 3 is the subtrahend. • What is the difference? • The result of subtracting one number from another. How much one number differs from another.Example: The difference between 8 and 3 is 5. minuend subtrahend 2 4 1 3 1 1 - difference
