  2. 1 Place a warm compress on your breasts, just before nursing, to get the milk flowing (3 - 5 minutes).

  3. 2 Use Cold compresses after feedings to reduce swelling (10 minutes or less).

  4. 3 Keep baby with you! Body contact can encourage milk flow and make frequent nursing more likely.

  5. 4 Use hand expression to express a small amount of milk, especially if you are uncomfortably full and your baby isn't ready to eat.

  6. 5 Every 2 hours Try to nurse or express milk. This will help guarantees fluid movement.

  7. 6 Use a breast pump for a short time to soften the nipple and areola so baby can latch better. Pumping will help alleviate engorgement as well.

  8. 7 Gently massage the breast that baby is nursing on. This encourages milk flow and helps to relieve discomfort.

  9. 8 Over-the-counter pain relievers can help relieve discomfort or pain. Check with your doctor before starting any new medications while breastfeeding.

  10. 9 Encourage a shift in fluids with gentle massage. Laying down on your back also helps keep your breasts higher.
