  2. Diabetes According to a report of the International Diabetes Federation, 14.8% of the adult population in Kuwait have diabetes. Diabetes is a condition where the blood glucose level rises due to the impaired production or ineffective use of insulin hormones. If it is left untreated, diabetes can worsen health conditions like stroke and heart disease also damaging nerves, eyes, kidneys and other organs. Some of the symptoms of diabetes are increased hunger, thirst, weight loss, frequent urination, fatigue and unhealed sores.

  3. Types of Diabetes

  4. Type 1 Diabetes It also known as juvenile diabetes is an autoimmune disease that occurs when the body fails to produce insulin due to an attack on the pancreatic cells leading to insulin deficiency.

  5. Type 2 Diabetes Unlike in Type 1 diabetes, cells in the body become resistant to the insulin produced in Type 2 diabetes leading to a build-up of blood glucose levels.

  6. Gestational Diabetes It usually appears in pregnant women due to insulin blocking hormones produced by the placenta during pregnancy due to which the body becomes less sensitive to insulin. Gestational diabetes normally resolves after pregnancy.
