  4. PUNJAB SDG INDEX 2020-21 PUNJAB SDG INDEX 2020-21 Sh. Raj Kamal Chaudhuri, IAS Principal Secretary Department of Planning Government of Punjab The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) have globally become the most ambitious and unifying development agenda of this century. SDGs track the progress in developed and developing countries against same measures. They bringgovernments, private sector and civil society together in common pursuit. They provide an opportunity for allof us to join hands to improve the well-being of people and planet, everywhere. In today's world SDG – focused initiatives and monitoring the progress is more relevant than ever. The initiatives which have been steered so far, interms of developing SDGvision documents and roadmaps, creating indicator frameworks, instituting robust review and follow-up systems, and building capacities across levels, have been very valuable. Continuingthis path to meet the targets set and achieve the milestones, we can progresscollectively and accomplish the SDGs on time. NITI Aayog in Government of India is the nodal agency coordinating the SDGs across centre and states. Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI) has developed a National Indicator Framework (NIF) to help monitor the progress of the goals in India. In view of India's commitment to the 2030 Agenda, Punjab too has set ambitious targets for itself for achieving the SDGs within the state. This report is an analysis of the third edition of the SDG India Index for Punjab goal-wise and indicator -wise. Concerned departments working on specific indicators have been identified, as well as departments responsible for data management on specific indicators. This report will be a guiding document for the state to identify the focus areas and reform areas for policy action. The report will also help the State to understand the dynamics of SDG India Index and improve the performance of the State in next Index and overall development agenda. I congratulate the officials of the Department of Planning as well as the SDGCC team, for their tireless efforts and commitment to localize SDGs in the State. The Department of Planning will continue to provide full support in realizing Punjab's SDG 2030 vision. Sh. Raj Kamal Chaudhuri, IAS

  6. PUNJAB SDG INDEX 2020-21 PUNJAB SDG INDEX 2020-21 Sh. Vikas Verma Regional head, North Region United Nations Development Programme The 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) were enthusiastically agreed upon by nations world over in 2015. The current decade is regarded as the 'Decade of Action' by the United nations to accelerate the implementation of universally accepted SDGs and to do so by the year 2030. To achieve this ambitious vision in a timely manner, considerable efforts are required to be put in at the sub national and local level. The work done at the States-UTs and other rural/urban governing bodies is reflected in the overall performance of the nation regarding SDGs. The Punjab SDG Index Report 2020-21 is a step towards localizing SDGs at the department level in the state. The comprehensive report imparts a detailed analysis of the performance of the state in the SDG India Index Report 3.0 published by NITI Aayog. Apart from the departments the report will also be beneficial to many other stakeholders in the private, public and civil society domain who are deeply invested in the development of Punjab.
