  2. Well-Known dams of Bhopal 1) Bhadbhada Dam These dams are the group of 11 sluice gates located at the south-east corner of Upper Lake in Bhopal. It was set up in 1965. These gates are usually meant to control the outflow of water from the lake to the Kaliasote river and are unfurled only when there is excessive rainfall during monsoon season. It is situated at Suraj Nagar in front of the National Judicial Academy. Most people are seen here during monsoon season to relish the beautiful landscape view.

  3. 2) Halali Dam It is a reservoir developed across Halali river in Raisen District of Madhya Pradesh. It is located on the outskirts of Bhopal city situated 40 km away from it. Notably Halali river is tributary of Betwa river, and it is also known as Samrat Ashok Sagar Project. People often come here to spend weekends. It is also known for delightful Boat rides. It is sited in Chunabhatti and Nehru nagar resident colony in the mid of Bhopal. Fact to be noted about this dam is, it used for irrigation of Rabi crops in Bhopal and Raisen districts of Madhya Pradesh from November to April and secondly extreme rainfall of Bhopal is contolled by Kaliyasot waterlogging.

  5. 4) Kerwa Dam It is becoming one of the popular picnic spots due to its lush green surroundings and exotic view, it is located about 15 km away from the hustle bustle of the city. Various adventurous and sports activities are also organized here like Mud racing, bike riding, bird watching camps. Hotels like Touchwood resort is situated in its close proximity where you can enjoy the delicious cuisines.

  6. 5) Kolar dam It is built on the Kolar river, a tributary of Narmada river near Lawakhweri village in Sehore District. Kolar river emerges from Vindhya Mountain ranges in Sehore district of MP and flows in south west direction. It facilitates 70% of filtered water to Bhopal district and is mainly built to fulfill water availability for irrigation purposes in nearby areas.
