  1. Everything that You Need to Know About MRI Scans, Its Use and Working The development of Magnetic Resonance Imaging has completely revolutionized the medical world with its accuracy and significance. The technology is known for accurate disease detection and has now become one of the most vital techniques that a doctor uses for treatment. A MRI Scan basically brings to use magnetism, radio waves and a computer to create images of your body structures. The equipment that is used for the test is referred as an MRI scanner which is a tube like structure that is surrounded by a large magnet. What are MRI Scans used for? MRI scanner is a non invasive tool that provides doctors with precise pictures of the internal parts of the body. Doctors, scientists and researchers basically make use of the imaging technique to detect diseases in the human body. Here are some of the major cases where a MRI scan is required: In cases of irregularities with the spinal cord and the brain Detecting tumors, cysts and other abnormalities in various parts of the human body Cases of joint pain or sports injuries Discovering certain special type of heart problems In cases of abnormalities in liver and other parts of the abdominal region How to Prepare for a MRI Scan? Usually there is no or very little preparation required for a Magnetic Imaging Resonance scan. When a patient goes for a MRI scan he is required to change into a gown. Due to the involvement of magnets the patient needs to make sure he is not carrying any kind of metal object. In special cases the patients are injected with intravenous contrast liquid in order to get the accurate appearance of certain body tissues. How a MRI Scan is performed? Magnetic Resonance Imaging is usually performed by a MRI technologist who has pro level knowledge about the scanner and the imaging technique. After the MRI is done a radiologist interprets the images. During the MRI scan you are made to lie down on a movable bed that goes straight inside the tube. The main part of the MRI scanner is its magnets. When inside the tube the patient should feel relaxed and is required to lie still so as to gather the accurate image of the body part. During the MRI scan the patient can communicate with the technologist using a two way intercom system. The technologist keeps a consistent eye on the patient from a window like structure.
