  1. Tips on How to Keep Mouth and Teeth Healthy? health-life-news.com/tips-on-how-to-keep-mouth-and-teeth-healthy 07 Dec When they occur, oral problems can really hurt. Hence, it is better to prevent them rather than cure them. The following steps can be taken to maintain oral hygiene (clean teeth and healthy gums): 1. Brush your teeth daily: The food which we eat gets stuck in between our teeth or between our gums and teeth. When left there it becomes the breeding ground for a lot of bacteria. Hence, brushing them daily is an absolute must. For best results, you should brush your teeth twice a day- in the morning and before going to bed. Brushing would help the teeth and gums stay clean. Learn the correct way of Brushing: Brushing should always be in an up-down motion rather than sideways motion. This would pull out everything which is there in your teeth. 2. Floss your teeth after meals: The reason to do so is the same as above. We eat different types of food- liquid, sticky, and fibrous. While some of them are heavy and get flossed with the help of our saliva, there are others which get stuck in between our teeth or in the space between teeth and gums. Regular flossing (with water or a flossing solution) after every meal can help you clean this remaining portion of food. 1/2

  2. 3. Avoid eating sugary stuff: Foods rich in sugar sound death knell for young teeth. They are easily attacked by the bacteria in our mouth which then results in cavity. In place of sugary things like candy, chocolate bars and other similar things, one can satisfy our taste buds with fruits. Naturally occurring sucrose found in them does not pose any harm to our teeth. 4. Avoid smoking: Adults should avoid tobacco in all forms- smoking as well as chewing. The nicotine inside tobacco leaves gets accumulated in between the gums and teeth and this not only stains them but also become the breeding ground for bacteria. 5. Avoid eating too hot or too cold things: We all like things biting cold or piping hot. However, these extreme temperatures prove a threat to our teeth and gums. Further, a mix of both can straightaway cause damage to the underlying nervous system in our mouth. 6. Visit your dentist once every six months: Dental check-up is as important as dental care. Dental checkup by a dentist can verify whether the steps taken by you to maintain oral hygiene are working or not. Further, a visit to the dentist can also help take care of already existing dental problems. Children should be initiated into it once they are 1 year old. Teens and adults should do it once every six months. 2/2
