  1. Hair Restoration Procedures

  2. Hair Restoration Procedures A hair transplant is the most common surgical treatment for hair loss today. For men and women suffering from hair loss, hair transplant can be a life-changing procedure. Hair transplant surgery can restore your naturally growing hair for life. The days of the unnatural looking “corn row” results are long gone. The truth about hair loss Baldness is often blamed on poor circulation to the scalp, vitamin deficiencies, dandruff, and even excessive hat-wearing. All of these theories have been disproved. It's also untrue that hair loss can be determined by looking at your maternal grandfather, or that 40-year-old men who haven't lost their hair will never lose it. Hair loss is primarily caused by a combination of: • Aging • a change in hormones • a family history of baldness • As a rule, the earlier hair loss begins, the more severe the baldness will become.

  3. Hair Restoration Procedures How is a hair replacement surgery/hair transplantation performed? 1.) Selecting and harvesting hair from the donor area. For most people this will be from toward the back area of the head. Your specific level of hair loss plays a vital role. If you don't have enough natural growing hair on your head, you may not be an ideal candidate for hair replacement (transplant) surgery. Harvesting hair from the donor area involves removing small pieces of hair-bearing scalp grafts from a donor site and relocating them to a bald or thinning area. 2.) Closing the donor area. Once an appropriately-sized strip of donor hair is removed, the incision is then stitched up. (Typically, these stitches are removed about 10 days after surgery and will leave behind a small scar that can be concealed by your own hair).

  4. Hair Restoration Procedures How is a hair replacement surgery/hair transplantation performed? 3.) Transplanting the hair grafts. After the donor strip is removed, tiny hair grafts are then prepared for hair transplant surgery into your balding areas. Often times the hair grafts at the front hairline will contain between one to three hairs each. As the grafts are transplanted further back from your hairline, the numbers of hairs per graft will increase. Your dermatologist or plastic surgeon should tailor a hair replacement surgery method that will best suit your needs. 4.) Covering the Hair Loss Area Most times this is an outpatient procedure and typically takes between 2-4 hours to complete. During which time the client is usually kept awake and alert (anesthesia prevents any uncomfortable feelings of pain). However, most patients who receive hair restoration surgery will require multiple procedures to fully cover their hair loss area with adequate density levels.

  5. Hair Restoration Procedures What results can I expect? Hair replacement (implant) surgery does not produce an instantaneous head of hair. In most cases, the hairs fall out of the grafts immediately after hair transplant and do not regrow for approximately three months. The donor sites gradually heal to leave slight scarring but this is concealed by “lifetime” hair growing around the site. Generally, several surgical sessions may be needed to achieve satisfactory fullness and a healing interval of several months is usually recommended between each session. The amount of coverage you'll need is dependent upon the color and texture of your hair, as well as the amount of bald area to be covered. Coarse, gray or light-colored hair affords better coverage than fine, dark-colored hair. The number of large plugs transplanted in the first session varies with each individual.

  6. Hair Restoration Procedures What results can I expect? Choosing hair restoration will permanently change your appearance to a more youthful look. Hair transplant surgery will restore hair that will grow naturally and require styling and haircuts, just like persons who do not suffer from hair loss. Follow-up with your dermatologist or plastic surgeon is the best way to ensure the most successful overall results from hair restoration surgery.
