  1. Senior Citizens Often Have Very Specific Needs Senior citizens often have their own, specific needs when it comes to taking a bath or a shower. They are, in most cases, no longer that mobile, which may cause problems when they want to take a bath or shower. Bathtubs and showers are rarely designed and installed to consider the demands of the elderly. That is why this segment of the population want to look at options that make it less daunting for them when they want to take a shower unassisted. With help, most them can take a bath or shower, but help may – of also comes at a cost to their independence, and often their budget may not allow for it, lest they are willing to curb other expenses. Pride is important to most people, and certainly not less so to the elderly. Something small such as taking a shower or bath without having to rely on someone to help you, can make a big difference. The problem with, for example, most traditional showers is that they were never invented, designed and installed with the older person’s needs in mind. They often have a high step to negotiate, they have no place for the user to grab onto when they enter and are taking the shower – they do not consider that the elderly and other disabled people feel at risk when they take their shower. Fear of slipping and falling while in the shower, or when you have to lift your feet a few inches when you step out onto a tiled floor, for example, can intimidate people. This is why the popularity of specially designed showers for the elderly and those with limited movement has shot up in recent years. People are now much more aware, and they know that they can look at alternatives. There are companies and services that offer the public choices such as walk-in showers, for example, and walk-in bathtubs. These are designed to make access, and getting out, so much easier. There are no longer high steps to negotiate, or high edges on tubs – everything is designed to make it easy for the user, and in doing so, they are assured of hanging on to their independence. Of course there are choices in terms of which service provider you may approach for the best walk-in shower, or bathtub – or even a combination of these. Looking around the advertisements in your local newspaper may give you an idea, but the internet offers a wealth of information - also who the best designers and installers of walk-in showers are.

  2. Also, some of these companies offer much more than their competition. You may want a shower that assures proper safety when you step in, for example a very low step to negotiate before you put your feet on an anti-slip base, while you can hold onto one or more of several grab bars that are strategically placed inside the shower for specifically this purpose. They are made to ensure you have access to a solid bar that allows you to not only hold on tightly, but also to allow yourself to pull your body into the shower. Once inside, the best ones offer a well- designed seat where you can sit while you let the shower do its work. It is convenient for the elderly and other individuals that struggle with mobility, and it ensures that you are given the assistance not to slip and fall; it helps you avoid employing and paying someone for their services to help you take a shower. These showers are designed for maximum safety, but also for features that make the whole showering experience much more pleasurable since some have ergonomically designed showerheads, seats and rests. These showers make life easier for most and offer a long-term solution for many.
