  1. ILIAS – WP1Welcome talk G.Losurdo

  2. Keywords • ILIAS: Integrated Large Infrastructure for Astroparticle Science • N5 (GWA): Gravitational Wave Antenna ILIAS-WG1 – July 7th, 2004 G.Losurdo – INFN Firenze-Urbino

  3. ILIAS N5 – GWA network • Objectives • Increase the level of EU coordination • Maximise return on large investments already made • Enhance the performance of existing detectors • Prepare the future of this discipline in Europe • Improve the exchange of infos on subjects of common interest • Foster the development of common methodologies for joint observations • Working groups: • WG1: antenna commissioning and characterization • WG2: joint operations of antennas, network data analysis • WG3: a european strategy for future antennas ILIAS-WG1 – July 7th, 2004 G.Losurdo – INFN Firenze-Urbino

  4. WG1 • Objectives • To speed up the commissioning and the characterization of Virgo and GEO by means of a deeper collaboration between the two teams • To develop common methods of characterization of interferometric GW detectors to be applied to Virgo and GEO • To provide inputs for establishing priorities for short term improvements of the existing interferometric detectors on the base of the Virgo and GEO characterization • Budget for travels: 30 keuro/year from 2004 to 2007 ILIAS-WG1 – July 7th, 2004 G.Losurdo – INFN Firenze-Urbino

  5. WG1: 4-years execution plan ILIAS-WG1 – July 7th, 2004 G.Losurdo – INFN Firenze-Urbino

  6. 1st EB meeting minutes • Main statement: “We must create a community that represents our activity…” • About the meetings: • Members of WG1 must meet 4 times/year at the experimental sites. • Meetings are open to all interested persons belonging to the network. • They have to meet twice before August (to be confirmed by the chairmen) • Appointed people have access to the detectors data (!!) • They have to identify what software tools are missing to perform their job ILIAS-WG1 – July 7th, 2004 G.Losurdo – INFN Firenze-Urbino

  7. About this meeting • Keep in touch, know each other • Status of the detectors: trying to understand where we are and where we are going • Commissioning subsystems: trying to develop a common language • Discussions: • What good can we do in this group? • What is the best way to organize the next meetings? • Data exchange privilege: what shall we do with it? ILIAS-WG1 – July 7th, 2004 G.Losurdo – INFN Firenze-Urbino
