Levels of Training (2) Certificate Programs Marketable skills in a short period of time Transferable skills to other programs of study Associate Degree Programs Upon successful completion of the program, the student is awarded an associates degree Commonly referred to as Two-year Programs Frequently takes longer than 2 years to complete

Certificate Programs Require less than 2 years to complete Marketable provides students with skills that they can take into the workplace and obtain employment Transferable skills may transfer to other health science programs.     8. Applicant Statistics There were 943 total applicants for the fall 06 Health Science Programs. Of those 943, approximately 160 students were admitted to Health Science Programs. Nursing had 349 applicants for 50 seats. Nursing accepts 50 students in January and August Radiology had 386 applicants for 32 seats; fall admission only Respiratory Therapy had 146 applicants for 32 seats; fall admission only

    9. Allied Health and Nursing Admissions Process Criteria Three factors are used to admit students into the Health Science Programs The factors are: Grade point average Number of college hours completed Course Success Weighting

    10. Grade Point Average Weighted Differently for Nursing than for Allied Health Programs The higher a persons GPA, the more points they accrue toward admissions Examples: 3.8 GPA earns more points than a 2.5 GPA

    11. Number of College Hours -Weighted Differently for Nursing than for Allied Health Programs The more college credits a person has, the more points they accrue toward admissions Examples: 65 college credit hours earns more points than 21 credit hours

    12. Success Weighted Courses Program Coordinators have selected certain courses as predictors of student success in health science programs Each program has a different set of courses identified. Grades earned in the success courses earn points toward admissions

    13. Points Assigned to Grades in Success Courses Example: An A in BIO 180 will earn a student 5 success points toward admission to the nursing program A C in BIO 180 will earn a student 3 points toward admission to the nursing program

Sample Radiology Student Admission Point Total GPA (3.0) = 7 points College credit hours = 4 points Student has BIO-115 with an A 3 points X 5 credit hours = 15 points Student has MTH-101 with a B 2 points X 4 credit hours = 8 points Student has MTH-101 with a B Student has MRT-110 with a B 2 points X 3 credit hours = 6 points

    26. Total Points Radiology Example GPA = 7 points College credits = 4 points Total points for success courses = 15 for BIO-115 + 8 for MTH-101 + 6 for MRT-110 = 29 Pts Grand total: 40 points
