Reference/Research Purchases FY01 • $700,000.00 in budget for libraries • $2,962,000 Unfinanced Requirements for Online • FirstSearch is covered until about April 02 • Tear sheets will be sent in June/July for reference books and online services • Year end Funds possible • Possible use of year end funds could be subscription programs for books, books on tape or books on CD

  6. Electronic Books Test • $120,000.00 to test electronic books • Still looking for volunteer libraries • Staff technologically adept • Staff interested in new technologies • Library users demanding the newest technologies • Library infrastructure acceptable

  8. Electronic Books • Can be read only on Computers – NetLibrary • Can be read only on specific E-books reading devices • Can be read on handheld computers such as the Palm Organizer.

DITSCAP • Army's established drop-dead date for having all local area networks and systems attached to the Installation campus area network (CAN) certified and accredited is31 Jan 02. • CFSC Contract with Getronics Government Solutions has expired. • I have sample templates for: • Library Security Policy • ILS Security Awareness Training and Education Plan • Contingency Plan • Library Inventory Data Form

  10. Challenges • Computer workstations connected to the network and used by family members to access the Internet • Integrated Library Systems on the network and accessed by family members to access the catalog

  11. Public Access Computers • Plan to take public computer workstations off the NIPRNET • Work to get a commercial Internet Service Provider (ISP) for the public computer workstations before Jan 02

  13. Internet Filters • The Army will field Internet filtering software on the NIPRNET by June 1, 2001 • The software can block workers from surfing undesirable Websites completely or just at certain times. • What does the Army deem undesirable? • Gambling, pornography, personal shopping sites
