  2. What is a Weekly World Watch? The idea is simple. It is to look at current events and compare them to events spoken of in the Bible. . I hope to build up a picture of God’s hand working in the affairs of this world. God is bringing about a day when all nations will be gathered to Jerusalem to battle. At that time God will send His Son, the Lord Jesus Christ, back to this earth. Jesus will then establish God’s kingdom on earth. This kingdom will last for ever. This is our hope and the reason we watch. The following six themes will appear repeatedly in WWW: • Israel: The continuing conflict in the Middle East and focus on Jerusalem. • Europe: Its developing union, both political and religious. • Russia: Its return to anti-Western ways as Bible prophecy’s “king of the north.” • The UK and the US: Bible prophecy’s “king of the south.” • Moral standards in decline and violence on the increase. • Increasing natural disasters: including earthquake, famine etc WWW presentations in PowerPoint can be ordered as audio/visual CDs by clicking here.   3. BIBLE QUOTE What is in a Weekly World Watch? Each WWW looks at a few key developments that have happened during the past week. It is in no way meant to be exhaustive – just a look at those events I saw as significant from a Biblical point of view. Every WWW event slide has the following format. News Photo This is straight from a news report that caught my eye because it looked significant from a Biblical perspective, usually that of prophecy. HEADLINE The source of the headline and the date are included. This is the reporter’s description of the event. It is always a direct quotation from the news report and reflects the understanding of the reporter and editors. EVENT This is my comment on why the event is interesting to a Bible student. The intention of the WWW is to offer brief Biblical perspectives without going into detail. If more detail is desired, please e-mail me: (andy@weeklyworldwatch.co.uk). COMMENT This is normally one verse which backs up why the event that has occurred is interesting from a Biblical perspective. Please read in its context. Behold, therefore I will gather all thy lovers, with whom thou hast taken pleasure, and all them that thou hast loved, with all them that thou hast hated America urges Arab nations to reach out to Israel Daily Telegraph, July 29, 2009 President Barack Obama has asked Arab countries to make confidence-building gestures towards Israel in the hope that they could kick-start the peace process. The White House has asked at least seven Arab countries to consider what they might do in return for an Israeli pledge to freeze construction of settlements in the West Bank. The US administration is reaching out to moderate Arab countriesin the region to inject some momentum into efforts to revive Israeli-Palestinian talks. Jonathan Rynhold, a London-born expert in US-Israeli relations at Bar-Ilan University, said the White House was likely to have contacted Morocco, Bahrain, and other Gulf states. Mr Rynhold said: “It does serve as an umbrella strategically if the Palestinians want to move forward.” Washington hopes such moves will encourage Israel to reconsider their plans to continue construction for what officials term “the natural growth” of existing settlements. EVENT America is piling the pressure on Israel. With the current Israeli government unwilling to stop settlement growth the USA is now approaching “friendly” Arab nations to see if they will make the first move in confidence building measures. It mainly involves opening up trade offices and flight routes between the countries. It is interesting that most of the Arab nations that have been contacted are around the Saudi Arabian peninsula. The Bible says that Tarshish (UK) and the young lions (USA etc) are associated with Sheba and Dedan. See Ezekiel 38:13. Sheba and Dedan cover the territory of the Saudi peninsula. It is remarkable just how accurate the Bible is in relation to modern events. COMMENT BIBLE QUOTE (Ezekiel 16:37)

Obama’s demand that Israel not settle Jews in the Biblical areas of Judea and Samaria ignores thoroughly-documented Jewish roots in the Land of Israel, and in Judea/Samaria in particular. Yoram Ettinger, a former liaison for Congressional affairs in Israel's Washington embassy, lists in the latest of his periodic position papers some of the evidence showing that Judea and Samaria has Jewish , not Arab, roots. Ettinger negates Obama's claim – enunciated during his June 4, 2009 speech at Cairo University – that "the aspiration for a Jewish homeland is rooted in" the Holocaust. For one thing, Ettinger notes, many world-renowned travellers, historians and archaeologists of earlier centuries refer to "Judea and Samaria," while the term "West Bank" was coined only 60 years ago. EVENT We know of course from God’s Word that this land was given to the Jews by God himself. The world does not recognise this fact. But even on a purely historical basis the land that Obama wants to give to the Palestinians is historically NOT theirs. The land was named Palestine in order to erase from memory the existence of Israel. Most Arabs residing today in Israel have their origin in a massive 19th-20th century migration from Egypt, Syria, Lebanon and other Moslem countries. The very names of the towns in the “West Bank” affirm Jewish roots. Hebron, Bethlehem etc etc Neither Arab, Palestinian or any other nation can claim the land of Israel is theirs. Russia-Iran Naval Manoeuvres Begin in Caspian Sea Israel National News, July 29, 2009 Russia is joining up with Iran for joint naval exercises for the first time ever, according to the Iranian Mehr News Agency. The joint Russian-Iranian naval manoeuvres, which were announced Wednesday, are taking place this week in the Caspian Sea. The report, which could not be independently confirmed, quoted a senior Iranian ports authority official who said the drill was aimed at preventing pollution and improving search and rescue operations coordination between the two nations. However, the manoeuvre, involving some 30 vessels, is seen by some analysts as a way to join forces against the U.S., which the Asia Times referred to as "the intrusive Western superpower." Russia has been instrumental in protecting Iran from further sanctions by the United Nations Security Council due to its defiance of a U.N. mandate to end its nuclear development program. EVENT The Bible is clear that Russia will act as a guard to those nations that invade Israel in the future. One such nation is Iran. Iran is “Persia” in the Bible. A guard could be a prison guard or could be someone guarding (protecting) someone else. In the case of the verse below it seems clear it is the latter. Russia is not acting as a prison guard – constraining the nations assembled with it. The very fact these nations are “assembled” unto Russia indicates that Russia is protecting them. The word “assemble” is used either for religious, political or for war purposes. Russia continues to “prepare” for war. The day is surely fast approaching when Russia finally puts its plan into action – and invades Israel – with Iran….. COMMENT BIBLE QUOTE (Ezekiel 38 :7)

I will also gather all nations, and will bring them down into the valley of Jehoshaphat, and will plead with them there for my people and for my heritage Israel US to Israel: Leave military option against Iran to us Debkafile, July 31, 2009 The weeklong US-Israel marathon in Jerusalem and Tel Aviv ending Thursday, July 30 was the platform for the Obama administration's first unveiling of a new US diplomatic-military program for Iran and its nuclear threat, DEBKAfile's military and intelligence sources disclose. The three-staged program was presented by US defence secretary Robert Gates and national security adviser James Jones to prime minister Binyamin Netanyahu, defence minister Ehud Barak, chief of staff Lt. Gen. Gaby Ashkenazy, Mossad chief Meir Dagan and military intelligence head Amos Yadlin. But on the other, the intelligence estimates the US and Israel traded in their talks this week differ on Iran's timeline for assembling nuclear warheads and devices. By asking Israel to leave the Iranian nuclear threat to the United States, Gates and Jones were also telling Israel to accept US intelligence's longer estimate of this timeline. This might in the long run turn out to be inimical to Israel's security interests EVENT COMMENT Israel feels threatened by Iran. The USA wants to try every diplomatic avenue before any military attack takes place. But time is ticking for Israel. Israel looks at Iran’s nuclear program speeding up and nearing a conclusion. We know that Iran does take part in the invasion of Israel - therefore with Bible in hand we know that Iran will survive any attack that does take place (if any). There must be a likelihood that the Gogian invasion of Israel (that includes Iran) does happen before Israel / USA attack Iran. If this is the case then the war on Israel is close. As we see Russia working with Iran all the pieces are fitting together… BIBLE QUOTE (Joel 3:2)

It's available on TV screens and in magazines and to anyone of any age on the internet. Teenagers in the UK spend 87 hours a year looking at porn, according to a survey carried out this year for CyberSentinel, a parental-lock software company. Studies suggest that as many as 80 per cent of men watch porn on TV or the internet, and many of them are so addicted to it that it's been called the new cocaine. Why is it so powerful? Pornography taps into intense emotional, biological and chemical connections throughout the brain and body. Arousal through pornography leads to the release of the naturally occurring chemicals dopamine, norepinephrine, oxytocin and serotonin. Mary Anne Layden, Sexual Trauma and Psychopathology Programme co-director at the University of Pennsylvania, says: 'Porn is the most concerning thing to psychological health that I know of existing today.' According to Layden, online pornography is akin to having an addictive drug pumped into your house for free, 24 hours a day. And unlike other drugs, which users can get out of their system, pornographic images stay imprinted in the brain. What is disturbing is that in clinical trials where subjects are exposed to repeated presentations of pornography over a six-week period, the subjects are found by the end of the trial to devalue monogamy and cease to regard marriage as a lasting institution. It's no surprise, then, that excessive use of pornography causes a disturbance to family life and decreases sexual satisfaction within marriage. In the U.S., pornography is the third largest money-maker for organised crime, after drugs and gambling. In the UK, it's a fast-growing billion-pound industry that trades on men's fantasies, increasingly featuring scenes of violence. EVENT BIBLE QUOTE (Matthew 5:28)

They are perilous for US – the true believers and brothers and sisters in Christ. Perilous means “hard to bear”. The original word has the idea of sapping your strength. We are surrounded by people who “love pleasure”, are “without natural affection” and are “led away with divers lusts”. This can sap our own spiritual strength. Part of our watching is not just watching “the signs” but watching our own lives. There is a terrible danger that we can get sucked into the wickedness and sin that surrounds us. Even excusing behaviour we know is sinful and ungodly. Perhaps one of the greatest dangers is the internet and the access this gives us to pornography and many other evils. In case we have any doubts that the world is affecting our own young people, we should give heed to a survey taken last year. It was passed out at four North American Bible schools and the responses were sent in a confidential manner over the Internet. Fully two-thirds had viewed pornography accidentally on the Internet; 50% of the boys and 24% of the girls admitted to having an Internet porn problem. It won’t just be the young either. Adults will be affected as well. As the previous article said 'Porn is the most concerning thing to psychological health that I know of existing today’. Whether accidentally or on purpose it fills our hearts and minds with godless images that will eventually effect how we think and behave. We need therefore to remove the temptation/risk from our lives. The best way (I have found) is to install software that blocks ALL inappropriate websites. The software I use is called SAFE EYES. You cannot get round it – it makes your computer SAFE. I would urge all believers to install something like this on every computer they own. COMMENT BIBLE QUOTE (Luke 11:34)
