PURPOSE • The major aims and objectives of the Trend Program are to: • Identify, evaluate and make decisions on changes to the Project Scope, including cost, schedule, quality and services. • Forecast the overall direction of project cost. Trend is any variance from the current scope or approved project schedule that may result in a change of project timing. If there are Scope Changes, they shall be routed to the Scope Change procedure. Where trends are NOT identified as scope changes, they will be evaluated for their impacts on cost and schedule.

The only way in which an approved Trend will be removed from the Trend Register and Cost System is if the Trend is considered to be a scope change and is approved through the Scope Change Procedure. In this event, the Trend will be cancelled in the Trend Register and removed from Cost System as its impact will be carried within the appropriate scope change.

  5. TREND PREPARATION WORKINSTRUCTION Trends are defined as unapproved changes to the forecast cost for awarded and un-awarded work and significant variance to the project schedule. These are typically areas where the scope (i.e. quantity changes) and cost are known to have changed. Trends can include additional works to the project which may lead to the Scope Change. Preparing the Trend Notification Form Completing the Trend Register Identifying the Trend Numbering the Trend • Trend Summary • Trend Details • Schedule Impact • Trend Information • Scope Change • Forecast Cost

  6. TREND PREPARATION WORKINSTRUCTION Forecasting Trends Work must not commence until the Trend has been approved by the required parties, including the Project Director / Deputy Project Director where required, and a contract, Variation, Purchase Order or Work Package Instruction is in place. • Post Trend Approval Once approved, a Trend will remain in the un-awarded forecast until the work is awarded to a contractor, at which stage it will be replaced by a V.O. Via the Trend review meetings Project Management may choose not to proceed with the Trend/V.O. In these cases the Trend will be marked as cancelled on the Trend Register.
