  1. Bangladesh Manobadhikar Sangbadik Forum(BMSF) BMSF was formed in 1991 to mobilise the Journalists and facilitate their participation in Human Rights and development program activities.

  2. VISION • An environment, free of Human Rights Violation against Men, Women and Child, that ensures drugs and HIV/AIDS free society and strengthens the democratic institutions in Bangladesh.

  3. MISSION • BMSF works to contribute its share in the development. • The organisation mobilises the Journalist community in Bangladesh to undertake various development issues that are related to: Environment, Human Rights, HIV/AIDS and strengthen of the democratic institutions in Bangladesh with support and in collaboration with the Government, Donors, NGOs and members of the Civil Society.

  4. Coverage • BMSF has developed a network with 214 journalists working at 6 Divisions namely, Dhaka, Barisal, Chittagong, Khulna, Sylhet and Rajshahi. • Also 64 focal person Journalists in 64 districts and 6 co-ordinates in 6 Divisions of Bangladesh

  5. PROGRAM • HIV/AIDS Awareness Raising Via Media Main activity • Capacity Building • Networking • Advocacy • Research • BCC Materials Development • Media Campaign • Publication of Newsletter

  6. Regular Activities • Collection and dissemination of data / information on HIV/AIDS and Human Rights for media reporting. • Inter active meeting with media people both at National and Regional level and exchange of information and lessons learned on HIV/AIDS.

  7. Regular Activities • Organising issue based press conference and workshop. • Publishing reports, articles and photo-feature on HIV/AIDS and Human rights activities of NGOs and CBOs . • Publishing of Newsletter (AIDS).

  8. ACHIEVEMENTS • Journalists Network established on HIV/AIDS and Human Rights in Bangladesgh. • Developed a training manual on HIV/AIDS and Human Rights for the media people. • Developed a database on HIV/AIDS oriented Journalists (214) of 64 District.

  9. ACHIEVEMENTS • CBO’s/NGO’s activities on HIV/AIDS highlighted in National and local print media. • Established “South Asian Regional Forum” with NGO and Media on HIV/AIDS and Human Rights.

  10. LESSONS LEARNED • Media in Bangladesh is yet to focus on HIV/AIDS as a development issue. • Journalists /Policy makers in media sector are not adequately sensitized on HIV/AIDS. • Media is the only source of information that can be reached easily by all segments of the society.

  11. LESSONS LEARNED • Media needs to learn more on HIV/AIDS, people living with HIV/AIDS, other marginalized communities and relevant issues of human rights. • Media can play a vital role to prevent the spread of STI and HIV infections through regular writing on the issues.

  12. RECOMMENDATIONS • Journalist /Policy Makers of media sector need to be more sensitized on HIV/AIDS and Human rights issues. • Media should also monitor the activities of the Government, NGOs and the Donors to identify the examples of good governance in each sectors • Establish a National Information Center on HIV/AIDS.
