  2. What is Soda Lime? Soda lime is a chemical compound primarily used in carbon dioxide absorption. It's a mixture of two chemicals, sodium hydroxide (NaOH) and calcium hydroxide (Ca(OH)2), along with water and a small amount of potassium hydroxide (KOH). Soda lime is commonly used in various applications such as in laboratories for absorbing carbon dioxide produced in closed systems, in rebreathing systems in anesthesia machines to remove exhaled carbon dioxide, and in scuba diving rebreathers to remove carbon dioxide from exhaled gas to prevent CO2 buildup. It works by chemically reacting with carbon dioxide, converting it into a solid carbonate compound.

  3. Uses of Soda Lime? 1. Carbon Dioxide Absorption: One of the primary uses of soda lime is in absorbing carbon dioxide (CO2) from closed systems. This is important in various fields such as laboratories, rebreathing systems in anesthesia, and scuba diving rebreathers. 2. Scuba Diving Rebreathers: Rebreathers are devices used by scuba divers that recycle exhaled gas, removing carbon dioxide and replenishing oxygen for the diver to breathe again. Soda lime is a component of the CO2 scrubber in rebreathers, where it absorbs CO2 from exhaled gas. 3. Industrial Processes: Soda lime can be used in certain industrial processes where carbon dioxide removal is necessary, such as in the production of gases, chemicals, and beverages. 4. Air Purification: In some applications, soda lime is used as a component of air purifiers to remove CO2 from indoor air environments.
