  1. Career options after completion ofLaw Many students get confused when they think of law as their career option. The question that comes into their mind is whether we should pursue law or not? Majorly, the reason behind such confusion is the lack of awareness about career options available for a student after completion of a law degree. Most of the students have a pre-notion about limited mainstream options available as their career options after graduating in law. Nonetheless, the new avenues have widened the scope of career choices and have made law the preferred choice of the new students. Here are career options that you can pursue after completion oflaw- Postgraduate studies from reputed global institutions- Studying at the University of Oxford or Cambridge is a dream of students. What if you can get to do your LLM or MPhil from these universities? Once you complete Law, you have opportunities to pursue your Masters from the world’s top universities and colleges. Moreover, law scholars from India are preferred by these universities because of the five-year integrated courses that are now popular and have an exhaustive study pattern. Other than that, there are fully-funded prestigious scholarships like Rhodes, Commonwealth, etc. which also prioritize students who have pursued the law as their undergraduatedegree. Public Policy and Law researcher- If you are a person who is intrigued with how the policies are formulated in India that helps in governing the executive functions as well as other societal responsibilities and if you wish to be a part of policy making team, then law degree is really important. These research centres and think tanks that have the responsibility of drafting these policies do prefer researchers who have a degree in law because of their vast knowledge in this area. So, this field is another area that is dominated by lawgraduates. Judicial clerkships- Judicial clerkship is a contractual position offered by judges of the High Court, Supreme Court, etc. The role of the judicial clerk is to assist the judge in the court with researching, drafting, and other routine work. So, a person who is fascinated to understand the functioning of the judicial system and wants to see the law from the eye of judges, can, after pursuing law as an undergraduate, avail of this exclusiveopportunity. Research associates and fellowships- There are many research centres that require legal associates to work with them. For example, project 39-A, Centre for Criminology and Victimology, etc. requires research legal associates. Students who have an interest in the field of research can pursue these jobs. Additionally, there are many fellowships where legal researchers are required or are preferred. Some of the fellowships are the LAMP fellowship, Teach for India fellowship, and like. Even the Law Commission of India seeks legal researchers for their research work that has to be done in order to prepare commission reports. Others- Other than that, mainstream career options like litigation lawyer, corporate jobs, In-house counsel, judicial examinations, civil service examinations, PSU jobs, lecturer, etc. are available for a student to pursue after law graduation. However, the new areas are providing better career opportunities for lawyers and are seeking the attention of students as their desired career options.
