  1. Greenhouse Construction– A Way For Sustainable Living If you want to cultivate food in a sustainable manner, consider greenhouse farming. Greenhouse farming enables you to cultivate food indoors, throughout the year. You may feel constructing a greenhouse is a huge task but an ideal structure and right accessories can make this task quite easy.

  2. Steps To Construct a Greenhouse 1 Select An Ideal Site The ideal location for a greenhouse is in the south, where it can receive sun light throughout the year. If not in the south, see if it can be built in the west. Just ensure that the site gets sufficient morning sunlight.

  3. 2 Select A Design & Layout The size of the greenhouse should neither be too small, nor too large. The recommended size for a greenhouse is atleast 6 feet wide and 12 feet long. An ideal layout would comprise of three benches set parallel to each other, with walk ways in between.

  4. 3 Select The Structure & Frame The structure depends on the climate in the region. Pitched roof is ideal for cold regions but otherwise, rounded roof works fine. The frame can be made from pressure treated wood or a metal like galvanized steel or aluminum.

  5. 4 Select A Covering Material There are varied options when it comes to greenhouse covering material, like glass, rigid panels, fiberglass, double wall plastics or plastic films. Glass covering is the traditional and the most advantageous choice as it is easy to maintain and looks good.

  6. 5 Select Flooring It can be something simple that goes well with the frame and the covering, like a gravel floor or concrete tiles. Gravel flooring considered to be a more appropriate choice, as a substantial floor goes well with a substantial structure.

  7. 6 Install An Electric Heater The heater will help maintain the temperature in the greenhouse. Ideally, plants need the temperature to be above 55° Fahrenheit to grow well. Along with the heater, install fans in the corners to simulate airflow and vents in the ceiling for ventilation.

  8. 7 Use A Green House Kit Greenhouse kits help you avoid pitfalls and flawed planning. It is always more convenient to use a greenhouse kit than to start all over again from the scratch. There are many greenhouse kit options available in the market at affordable prices.
