NASA Connecticut Space Grant College Consortium aa • Sunday • Rotor craft designs and flight demonstration (indoors, students will fly RC aircraft) Aerospace careers • Monday • Helicopter aerodynamics, Helicopter preflight • Flight in a Robinson Helicopter over CT • Tuesday • Control theory, Coaxial RC helicopter construction and flight testing. Students will build a CX-2 coaxial helicopter • KAMAN Aerospace tour, aerodynamics, • Wednesday • Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Control and design methods • Vertical Take Off and landing, RC VTOL design and construction • (Student teams will be instructed on the design and build RC VTOL aircraft) • Sikorsky Aircraft tour • Thursday • Wind tunnel testing, Students will run wind tunnel test on different aerodynamic shapes. RC Coaxial helicopter competition, VTOL aircraft competition • Friday • Aerospace Careers (Students will receive an overview of NASA related careers) • Human Powered Helicopter Tests Fixture Experimentation • (Students will run test using a coaxial rotor blade test fixture to determine how to maximize the lift to drag ratio) The test fixture is coaxial and the rotor blade diameters are 36 feet. Students will also run tests using a scaled Quad rotor blade test fixture similar to the design of the YURI I. NASA Connecticut Space Grant College Consortium • Application Requirements • Must be a US Citizen • Must be over 18 • Must have completed freshman year • Must be interested in aerospace • Fill out application at • http://uhaweb.hartford.edu/ctspgrant/student-opportunities.htm Selected Students Will Receive CX 2 Coaxial RC helicopter Helicopter experience T-Shirt Helicopter flight Tour of KAMAN Aerospace and Sikorsky Aircraft Room board, transportation and tuition Class room instruction on aerodynamics, rotorcraft principles, wind tunnel testing, control theory, VTOL RC aircraft, etc Also apply for a travel grant to cover transportation and the 250.00 registration fee.
