  7. P1 P2 P3 P1 100 % P3 P1 P2 P1 0 % P SP=2.5 bar Application - Water Pressure Control • Function Description • Constant pressure (P) • Pump Logic Controller • (B&G Buster package) • P1, P2 and P3 on-off with motor • starters

  8. 100% 1. 2. 3. P Solution: Built-In Pump Cascading This function allows for control of up to two additional, cascaded pumps. With the two relay output contacts, the SED2 performs the cascading logic without additional controllers or I/O cards. -No separate controller required -Energy savings with SED2 Pressure demand Cascade

  10. 100 % 0 % SP=25°C T Application – Temp. Control + Belt Monitoring • Function Description • Exhaust fan – • Air flow monitoring (External, only alarm) • -Room temperature control, cooling • Sensor Ni 1000 • -Set point +25°C • -Thermostat for switch on/off • Belt monitoring

  11. Torque Speed Solution: V-Belt Monitoring The SED2 ensures reliable V-belt monitoring without the expense of an external sensor. Both speed and torque are compared to a user-defined tolerance band. If the parameters do not match, the drive trips in the event of V-belt failure. Also, the SED2 is able to monitor a pulse sequence from the sensor detecting rotation of the fan shaft.

  12. 100 % 0 % SP=2.5 IWG Application – Temp. Control + Duct Pressure Control • Function Description • Exhaust fan = Like air temperature control example • -Air flow monitoring (External, only alarm) • -Static pressure control • 0-10v, 1-4inch wg • -Set point 2.5 inch • -Thermostat for switch on/off

  13. Pressure Speed Reduction Solution: Duct Pressure Control • 0 – 10 Volt standard output signal • 1% Accuracy over full scale • Available in uni-directional ½”, 1”, 2” and 5” wc • Available in bi-directional ¼” wc.

  18. Mounting & Installation Considerations • Type of environment - What is the location like? Does it fall within the drives operating ranges for altitude & temperature • Type of power - Line and load reactors reduce voltage. If voltage is already low, using them could have an effect on performance. - Does the power system supply at least 1% impedance? • Type of motor - Is it VFD rated? - Distance from the drive? - HP of the motors? - Age of the motor?

  19. Enclosure Ratings - Drive & Drive W/Bypass • IP 20 • No NEMA equivalent, needs to be mounted in another enclosure • Generally used in US for OEM applications • Our standard unit as it comes from the factory • IP 21 • NEMA 1, protects operator from electrical hazard and protects the equipment from falling material • Our standard unit when fitted with gland plate and dust cover • IP 54 • No direct US equivalent, but exceeds NEMA 12 • NEMA 3R • Water tight, limited need in drive applications

  20. Mounting & Installation Considerations Line Reactor Installation • Not recommended to reduce Harmonics • Can be ordered with or without an enclosure • Installed to protect the drive from: • Power spikes or sags caused from transfer to generator • Poor heavy switch load on the same load center

  21. Mounting & Installation Considerations Load Reactor Installation • Long wire leads from drive to motor • As wire length from drive to motor increases, the voltage spike increases • Can be ordered with or without an enclosure • Installed to protect the motor from: • Spikes caused from the drive switching frequencies or IGBT

  22. Mounting & Installation Considerations Line and Load Reactor Installation • Always use Siemens Building Technologies specified reactor • For retro-fit applications • REMOVE AND REPLACE EXISTING REACTORS WITH SBT SPECIFIED REACTORS

  23. Siemens SED2 VFD Advantages • Low harmonics design • Small enclosure size • Many standard features • Reduces operating cost • Low power losses/high efficiency • Minimal effect on customer power • Wide power range – from ½ to 125 HP
