  2. Changes through the Years • 1987- 1st ignition interlock law- judges discretion • 1998 - courts “shall order” • 2003 - Department of Licensing(DOL)

  3. Current Program • Department of Licensing • Required for ALL alcohol related convictions (regardless of BAC level) • Increased penalties for repeat offenders (1year-5year-10year restrictions) • Suspension for tampering/removal • Exemption for employment vehicles

Time for Change?Reward/Encourage instead of punishChange public perception • Reduce or remove suspension period for proof of installation • Reduce time the interlock is required for compliance • Allow all suspended drivers a temporary restricted license if they are insured and have an interlock
